5 Simple Ways to Tap Into Your Own Guidance

Updated: Oct 28, 2024

Ever felt like life keeps throwing curveballs, and no one gave you the playbook? šŸ§ Hereā€™s the secret ā€“ the answers youā€™re looking for arenā€™t out there, but in here.

Youā€™ve got this amazing inner compass just waiting to help you navigate lifeā€™s twists and turns. And Iā€™m here to show you how to tap into it! Think of this as a friendly nudge to help you start listening to your own guidance ā€“ because letā€™s face it, no one knows you better than you.

Grab a cozy spot, maybe a cup of tea (or coffee if itā€™s that kind of day ā˜•), and letā€™s dive into five simple ways to start unlocking the insight youā€™ve had all along. Plus, Iā€™m sharing a few of my favorite worksheets from the Jumpstart guide for free download to help you take these practices even further!

1. Mindful Breathing: Clear the Mental Clutter

When was the last time you took a deep breath? Iā€™m not talking about a ā€œjust need more oxygenā€ breath ā€“ I mean a deep, intentional, fill-your-lungs kind of breath. Mindful breathing is one of the easiest ways to connect with yourself. By simply focusing on your breath for a few minutes, youā€™re sending a signal to your brain that itā€™s okay to relax.

Try This:

Take five deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth, letting your belly rise and fall. It might feel silly at first, but stick with it! Focus on the sensation of the air moving in and out. This little pause helps to quiet the noise, making it easier to tune into that wise voice within you.

How This Helps:Ā When you slow down your breath, you slow down your thoughts. This is the perfect way to clear the mental clutter and make room for your own guidance to come through.

2. Journaling to Reflect: Capture Your Thoughts

You know those thoughts that pop up when youā€™re not expecting them? The ones that make you think, Hmm, where did that come from?Ā Journaling is like catching those thoughts with a butterfly net. Itā€™s a chance to put pen to paper and see whatā€™s going on in that amazing mind of yours.

Try This:

Set a timer for 5-10 minutes. Write whatever comes to mind. No rules, no judgments ā€“ just let the words flow. Ask yourself questions like, Whatā€™s been on my mind lately?Ā or How did I feel today?

How This Helps:Ā By writing things down, you create a space to process your emotions and ideas. Itā€™s like hitting ā€œpauseā€ on the chaos and giving yourself a chance to tune into whatā€™s really important.

āœØ Free Resource: Reflection PagesĀ āœØ

Iā€™ve included these Reflection Pages from the Jumpstart guide as a free download! These pages are designed to help you slow down and really thinkĀ about whatā€™s happening in your life. They include:

  • Prompted questionsĀ to help organize your thoughts

  • Space for gratitudeĀ to bring a little more positivity to your day

One of my clients, Anna, was struggling to feel connected to herself amidst a hectic job and busy home life. She began using these Reflection Pages each evening, and she told me itā€™s now her favorite part of the day. She looks forward to it as a time to unwind and reconnect, and sheā€™s noticed itā€™s helped her focus on what truly matters to her. Download your copy below and try it for yourself!

3. Trusting Your Gut: Recognize the Nudges

Ever had a hunch about something that turned out to be spot on? Thatā€™s your intuition talking. Trusting your gut is all about paying attention to those nudges and learning to recognize when your inner voice is trying to tell you something important. Itā€™s that feeling you get when something just ā€œfeels rightā€ or when something seems a little ā€œoff.ā€

Try This:

The next time youā€™re faced with a decision, pause and notice how your body feels. Are you tense? Relaxed? Pay attention to what your gut is telling you. If something feels ā€œoff,ā€ explore that feeling before you make a move.

How This Helps:Ā Your intuition is like an internal compass. The more you listen to it, the more reliable it becomes. Start small ā€“ with little decisions ā€“ and work your way up. Over time, youā€™ll notice that those hunches get stronger and clearer.

āœØ Free Resource: Wheel of Life WorksheetĀ āœØ

This Wheel of Life worksheet is another great tool for exploring the areas in your life where you may feel ā€œin tuneā€ or ā€œout of tuneā€ with your instincts.

  • Visual representationĀ of different life areas (career, relationships, health, etc.)

  • Score each areaĀ to see where youā€™re feeling most aligned and where you might need to refocus

Itā€™s an eye-opener for many of my clients! For example, one client, Mike, used this worksheet and realized he was putting tons of energy into his career but neglecting his relationships. This realization gave him the push he needed to start prioritizing time with loved ones, which in turn helped him feel more balanced and connected. Download the worksheet to create your own ā€œlife mapā€ today!

4. Getting Outside: Find Peace in Nature

Thereā€™s a reason people feel calm in nature. Fresh air, green spaces, birds chirping ā€“ itā€™s like a giant reset button for your brain. Getting outside, even if itā€™s just for a few minutes, can help you recharge and reconnect with yourself. Nature has this amazing way of reminding us to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the present moment.

Try This:

Take a short walk outside and leave your phone behind (or at least put it on silent!). Focus on the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Notice the details ā€“ the color of the sky, the shape of the leaves, the sound of the wind. Breathe it all in.

How This Helps:Ā Nature has a grounding effect. When youā€™re feeling overwhelmed or out of touch with yourself, stepping outside can remind you of the bigger picture and reconnect you with that inner peace.

5. Using Tools Like Tarot or Oracle Cards: Unlock New Perspectives

Now, I know what you might be thinking ā€“ Tarot? Really?Ā But hear me out. Using tools like tarot or oracle cards isnā€™t about predicting the future. Itā€™s about gaining perspective and reflecting on whatā€™s already within you. Think of it as a mirror for your thoughts, showing you angles and insights you might not have noticed on your own.

Try This:

Start with a simple one-card pull. Shuffle the deck and focus on a question, like, What should I focus on today?Ā Pull a card and take a moment to reflect on what it might mean for you. If youā€™re feeling adventurous, try a three-card spread ā€“ past, present, and future ā€“ to get a broader view.

How This Helps:Ā Sometimes, seeing things in a new light can open up fresh insights. Tarot and oracle cards can help you tap into those buried thoughts and emotions, giving you a chance to reflect and learn from them.

āœØ Free Resource: Daily PlannerĀ āœØ

The Daily Planner from the Jumpstart guide is perfect for keeping track of your insights, reflections, and daily guidance. This planner helps you:

  • Set daily goalsĀ based on your tarot insights or other reflections

  • Plan time blocksĀ for personal practice, like mindfulness or journaling

One of my clients, Rachel, used the Daily Planner to carve out just 10 minutes each morning for her own reflection. She said it helped her start her day with a positive, grounded mindset, and she felt more in control of her time. This planner has become her secret weapon for staying connected to her own guidance throughout the day. Download it for free below!
